I got a good surprise today when i recieved a email from the site Cryptocompare containing this report regarding the taxonomy of the crypto assets.

For those that don't know yet, Taxonomy is "is the practice and science of classification of things or concepts, including the principles that underlie such classification." (Source: Wikipedia)

It is a 79 pages explaining the method used, how each cryptoasset in existence (the major ones at least) should be classified according to the creators of this document.

This is how they ended up classifying them:

Why does it matter? According to Coinmarketcap there is 2112 Cryptocurrencies today, and as you may all already know, there is a lot of uses beyond being a mean of financial transactions.

And in this sea of projects, it is always good to know what kind of stuff you are putting your money in.

Also... Regulations. They are coming to the cryptoworld and there is no way to avoid it (in my opinion at least), so having a clear idea how to classify a cryptoasset is going to be a big deal.

So, if you have the time, i suggest you read the report. It is a really interesting piece of information.
